Engagement photography session with Emily and David at the PUB!

Getting engaged is an exciting time in a relationship. Emily and David are getting married in August so we met up with them at The Hare and Hounds in Kings Heath to get a few engagement photos of the lovely couple before the big day. Its a great way to become comfortable with having your photograph taken and experience how I work and direct a shoot. Emily had been in touch via email to share her ideas for the engagement photography shoot which was so incredibly helpful. She brought along some props of her own that were significant to them both; a few games and a little ornament which came in very handy!
The staff at the pub were very helpful, even offering us a quick cuppa while we were there which was very welcome!
When we finished the shoot in the pub we took a little detour up the high street to the ‘Brum Yum Yum‘ street food festival for some much needed grub!! With thanks to Debi for being my assistant photographer for the day!

This Easter weekend I went to London to see the Man Ray exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London. I also used the opportunity to get some landscape shots of our fair capital.
The exhibition was amazing. I loved learning about Man Ray while studying in university and it was incredible to actually see the original images I had seen so many times in books. He really was an incredible artist, as were the photographers he associated himself with. Its well worth a visit if you like that sort of thing.

Obviously I couldn’t take photos inside the exhibition, but I used my time in London to capture a photographic journey of my travels there including a ride on the London Eye! I hope you like it!

Hey everyone! Welcome to my new website. Dann, my lovely live in web designer ‘sort of hubby’ and I have been beavering away in the background to get this beautiful example of a website up and running. From choosing the perfect theme, to making it work for me and my company and ironing out any niggling bugs we may have found along the way, we have finally created a web site that works for me! And I love love love it!

I hope you all feel the same way and find it easy to navigate and I also hope you enjoy looking through my work…I have updated it with lots of my recent work including Angela and Mark’s amazing Italian wedding and Abi Katzeffs lovely family portrait session amongst others.

Destination wedding photography!

Angela and Mark decided they wanted a destination holiday and they could not have chosen a nicer location! They decided on Umbria for their combined wedding-honeymoon and chose a beautiful villa called La Preghiera. Originally a 12th Century monastery, it is an historic house which has been restored and offers bed and breakfast accommodation near Perugia, Assisi, Lake Trasimeno and Città di Castello.

It was seriously one of the nicest places I’ve ever stayed. They even had a chapel on the grounds which is where the ‘business’ side of things happened.

The owners of the estate, John and Liliana Tunstill, were so welcoming and even took the time to show us around and tell us all about the history of the buildings and the land it sits on.

I even got to go on a day trip to Perugia and Assisi and saw the sights. You can’t help but be awe struck at the decadent cathedrals and statues. They are so massive. Plus the food, well lets just say I came home with a little extra luggage around my middle

Of course the wedding was a small but perfectly formed affair and the wedding photography was easy. A ceremony in the little chapel followed by a modest lunch which we all had a hand in creating! It was completely relaxed and everybody had a wonderful week away!

I would like to add a massive humongous congratulations to both Angela and Mark and their entire family, two families coming together as one is always an amazing thing. Here’s to many many happy years as a happily married couple and thanks for inviting me and letting me stay with you to do your wedding photography.

Wedding photography for Louise and Luke married August 2012

Wedding Photography Worcestershire!

We did the wedding photography when Louise and Luke got married last August at a beautiful quaint little country venue called The Crown and Sandys in Ombersley, Worcestershire. Even though last summers weather left a LOT to be desired, this particular day was one of the few absolutely gorgeous hot sunny days we had! The sun shone from early in the morning when we arrived and continued to beam down for the entire day.

Louise and Luke had already been together for a long time, but when they finally decided to tie the knot, they never expected to do so quite as quickly as it happened…Louise was merely making a few enquiries to the venue about their availability, expecting to have to wait until 2013 at least, but as it turned out, they had a space in 8 weeks, much sooner than Louise was expecting! So the wedding planning pretty much snowballed from there and we were called in to perform the wedding photography for the happy couple!

I know I say this about most of my wedding photography jobs, but it was one of the most relaxed days ever! They didn’t want too much formality, there was no planned sit down wedding breakfast meal, instead there was fish and chips wrapped in newspaper handed out. There was cocktail making tables with a variety of spirits and juices along with recipe sheets so the guests could mix their own drinks , indoor games tables and magic tricks along with various outdoor games like a croquet, huge connect 4 and hoola hooping! Plus some fabulous choooons blasting courtesy of their friend who just happens to be a fantastic DJ (its not what you know its who apparently!)

Louise even finished off the evening by throwing her bouquet after the first dance, which in my humble opinion, not enough brides do these days and was a lovely touch! It was such good fun and I didn’t want to go home! Congratulations guys! Sorry its taken me so long to update my blog with this FAB wedding!!

Black Prince Boating Holidays

I have worked with Black Prince Boating Holidays quite a lot over the past few years. My hubby Dann Hanks has produced a plethora of brochures, websites and other graphic design type stuff for them and he put them in touch with me to get some photos done.
Taking photos of boats is such good fun, not least because we usually get to take one out for a few days meaning we have a mini ‘busmans’ holiday! So far we have been to Chirk, Acton Bridge and Bromsgrove and in August we will be going down to London, which will be fab and we can’t wait.
There really is nothing like a boating holiday, its an exerience that stays with you forever and being able to do it so regularly has been amazing! And the kids absolutely LOVE it. Its a proper adventure!
The only thing I will say is that the ‘sea legs’ stay with you for a few days…shopping in a supermarket after you have been on a boat is a bit of a task (I worry that I look a bit tipsy!)

Family Portrait photography for Abi Katzeff and family, Birmingham 26/1/13!

Family portrait photography!

Abi contacted me for family portrait photography while she was visiting from Miami, Florida for a week in January to meet old and new family members. It is so important to produce this sort of portrait photography, especially when a family is so spread out like Abi’s are! I arrived after a snowy, Icy week and slid around until I found their house in Moseley, Birmingham. I set up inside as it was far too cold outside, although the sun was booming!

My portrait style is as natural as possible, I don’t turn up with backdrops or lighting, its just me, my camera and a plethora of lenses that help me do my job. Personally I don’t like images too contrived, I want my subjects to be as relaxed as possible infront of the camera and certainly not nervous! After about 10 minutes usually we all build up a rapport and I just get carried away taking lots and lots of pics!

It was so lovely to meet Abi and her gorgeous family, who have now returned to sunny Miami (I’m not jealous at all!) plus the extended family! And I am so grateful that they asked me to take their family portraits for them

Thankyou Ball, Stratford Manor Hotel, 14 July 2012

One of my old school friends Maria Haslam, was organising a charity ball at The Stratford Manor Hotel to raise money and say thank you to the Birmingham Children’s hospital for looking after her daughter, Martha, who was born with a cleft palate and CLAPA, the representative organisation for all people with and affected by cleft lip and/or palate in the UK. It was such a great night and lots of fun was had by everyone who attended, not to mention the money that has so far been raised for such a great cause. If you would like to donate to the cause, you can do it on the Virgin Money Page.
It was so nice to see Maria again after such a long time! I was in awe at how well she was coping with everything, I would be a nervous wreck if I had to organise anything even half the size of this! I can’t even organise my own birthday, let alone a BALL!
A night of fun, games, dancing and raffles was had by all and lots of money was raised for a fantastic cause!
